Final Thoughts

This is the last week in the SBOSE module.
This month (Ramadan - 9th lunar month) for me is what we (Muslims) call ‘the holy month’ or the month of worshipping, prayers, and before all that, 16 hours of fasting.
This Ramadan, for me – as an educator, student, and parent – is very exhausting and there is not enough time to fulfil any of my roles either as a teacher, student, or parent.
Throughout the units of the SBOSE, thinking about, supporting, and reaching the online learner, ending with what’s next and the future student, my perspective on how I instruct my students have passed through many turns, adding to my mind many circumstances, emotions, and insecurities they perhaps are facing.
Working on this blog – perhaps my first time to consider a written reflection of my emotions, thoughts, and feelings – taught me how emotions can have a major part in improving the teaching and learning process and how online learning has its unique demands other than just teaching.
Adding to my normal lessons a 2-min walk and talk time to give my students a short physical, and mental break, and including a weekly 5-min social time to allow them to talk and chitchat to overcome the feelings of isolation and relieve some stress, played a huge role in engaging the students in my lessons.
Not only that but also providing my students with a self-reflection form and a feedback form made them feel like partners in their learning process.
Thanks for reading!
